As I drove up the winding road to Mount Tamalpais, I idly mused upon the subtle meaning of economic theory as I contemplated the La Nina conditions. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 58 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 48. It was easy, just like its Hubble photograph. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I identified IC 3957 in Draco. It was as bright as the last six objects I'd seen. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I tracked down IC 793. It appeared to be 60 grit carborundum on asphalt. After that, I looked for and suspected IC 1210. It seemed just like Krylon Ultra-Flat Black. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I tracked down NGC 2297. It appeared at low power like the pillars of creation. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I observed M 50 in Canes Venatici. It was better than diamonds on black velvet.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than sex.
