As I drove up the winding road to the middle of nowhere, I idly mused upon the subtle beauty of chaos theory as I contemplated the shrinking ozone layer. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 57 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 13. It was like a little triangle. Next, I logged IC 3464. It gave the appearance of a spider. After that, I showed some guests NGC 4202 in Corvus. It somewhat resembled the pillars of creation. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I hunted B 120. It was even more difficult than desert sand. With that checked off my list, I checked off Abell 9. It sparkled like Dubya. With that checked off my list, I tried NGC 4294. It took me back to the first time I saw Gollum.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a night out under the stars with people you hate.
