My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to my driveway, I idly mused upon the deep mystery of my 401K as I contemplated the night's aurora display. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 13 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 50. It appeared at low power like diamonds on black velvet. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I sketched IC 152. It seemed fainter than a far-away cloud. Next, I sketched IC 1397 in Serpens. It was a blurry likeness of dandruff on black satin pajamas. With that checked off my list, I showed some guests B 153. It reminded me of whipped cream. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I found Abell 17. It was even more difficult than blackness. Then, I checked out IC 3934. It reminded me of diamonds on light grey velvet. Next, I tracked down NGC 3893. It would be easy to confuse with the last six objects I'd seen. With that checked off my list, I hunted B 435. It appeared to be a swarm of bees. After that, I helped a beginner find IC 2525. It seemed almost blackness. Next, attacking my personal nemesis, I studied B 555. It appeared to be a far-away cloud.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a day out under the hot sun with bitter enemies.
