Baylands BoomerFest, December 2008

Some of the combat flyers from Dublin (Calif, not Ireland) came down to Sunnyvale Baylands for a Saturday melee. There were 11 pilots, though I'm not sure there were ever more than 10 planes in the air at once.

When I ran out of batteries, I spent some time shooting photos and video of the "mothership" flights: Mike Bowns made a full sized version of the Wild Wing and taped a bunch of streamers to it to make a slow-flying target for the fighters. Sounds easy, right? Then factor in some 20mph wind gusts, changing direction (sometimes straight up or down) at will. The mothership lost some streamers but landed otherwise unscathed.
