As I drove up the winding road to Devastated Area, I idly mused upon the deep mystery of my life's work as I contemplated the crystal-clear skies. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 15 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 14. It somewhat resembled dandruff on black satin pajamas. With that checked off my list, I tracked down Abell 72 in Perseus. It glowed, rather like the pillars of creation.
After a short break to do some yoga, I hunted for Abell 27. It appeared at low power like a smoke ring. With that checked off my list, I added to my logbook NGC 3128 in Sagittarius. It glowed, rather like a glimmer of the Big Bang. Then, for a real challenge, I went for B 34. It looked like a spitting cobra. Next, I sought IC 3825. It looked a bit like Gollum.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than listening to the Monkees Box Set.
