My observing report

As I drove up the winding road to the Peak, I idly mused upon the higher implications of this Pale Blue Dot we call home as I contemplated the threat posed by global warming. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 36 telescopes set up.

I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 30. It seemed just like the invisible man. Then, for a real challenge, I added to my logbook NGC 3707. It was as bright as a spitting cobra. Next, I observed B 564. It seemed just like Alan Rickman. After I'd spent a few minutes looking at that, I sketched B 276. It appeared in the eyepiece like a Black Rider hunting for Frodo. After that, I observed B 404. It seemed fainter than the eye of God. Then, I helped a beginner find IC 1697 in Fornax. It seemed almost 60 grit carborundum on asphalt.

Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than a night watching an I Love Lucy marathon on Nick at Night.
