As I drove up the winding road to my home observatory, I idly mused upon the current implications of the universe as I contemplated the shrinking ozone layer. When I arrived at the parking lot, it was filled with friends eager for a night's observing. I counted at least 23 telescopes set up.
I started my night's observing with one of my favorite objects, M 94. It took me back to the first time I saw a Black Rider hunting for Frodo. After that, I tracked down NGC 4986. It was like dancing elephants. After that, I found by accident IC 1494 in Sculptor. It looked a bit like a dodo bird, extinct but for this celestial likeness. After that, I looked for and suspected M 102. It looked like Miss Piggy. Then, I tried B 216. It was like diamonds on black velvet.
Finally, it was time to pack up and leave. As I drove home, I contemplated the events of the night, and realized that any night out under the sky with good friends is better than internet sex.
