Tarantulas at Grant Ranch

September 18, 2007: we went tarantula hunting on the trails at Grant Ranch ... and found nothing. But we did find tarantulas at two different places on Mt. Hamilton road -- one was crossing the road in front of us, while the other was roaming one of the turnouts.

Late in the day, near sunset, seems best: we found one of our spiders at 5:30pm and the other at 6:10.

We also got rattled at by a western rattlesnake, saw a subterranean beehive, watched a flock of wild turkeys and found a blue heron feather.
